This journey to The Wife Type is interesting; a journey still being written. Beginning in the ‘70s, where I was born the 2nd of 6 sisters – yes, 6 – on the Westside of Chicago in the Henry Horner Housing projects, I had a profound passion for food and for cooking even back then. Some of my fondest childhood memories were of cooking in the kitchen with my grandmother. As a matter of fact, it should come as no surprise that I’d one day own my own catering business and have my own cooking show because one of the first times that I received compensation for my good cooking, I couldn’t have been more than 7 or 8 years old! I remember making breakfast for my Aunt and Uncle; it was an omelet. I wasn’t even tall enough to use the stove! I had to pull up a stepstool LOL! Well anyway, they loved this omelet so much that they went out and bought me a motion Barbie doll – which was a big deal to a little girl like me.

So as the years went on, life happened of course as it always does, but it didn’t seem to matter what I tried my hand in; my heart always lead me back to cooking. It was always a constant. I’ve gone to cosmetology school and even worked in Medical Billing for close to 20 years before deciding to take a leap of faith and enroll in culinary school. I attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, where I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science as a certified Culinary Chef! One of the best decisions I have ever made! The book of Proverbs says that your gift will make room for you and that’s exactly what my gift did. Prior to graduating, I was able to gain invaluable hands-on experience while living and studying abroad in Spain. While there I learned so much about the history and the culture – all, through, food. It opened a whole new world of understanding and confirmed what I’d already know all along: that this is what I was born to do!
